Top Iraqi cleric: Iraq will never abandon Iran, resistance path

A senior Iraqi cleric has declared that Iraq will never abandon the Islamic Republic of Iran, retreat from the establishment of Islamic governance, or turn back from the path of resistance in all its forms, stressing that the Iraqi nation remains loyal to the people and leadership of Iran.

Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Seyyed Sadruddin Qapanchi, Friday Prayer leader of Najaf, made the remarks during a commemoration ceremony marking the 40th day since the martyrdom of Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The event, titled "Between the Message-Oriented Thought and the Path of Imam Khamenei," was organized by Imam Mahdi University for Religious Studies in Najaf.

Addressing a gathering of seminary students, Qabanchi spoke about the political and intellectual currents within the Islamic Republic of Iran and the vision of the martyred Ayatollah Seyyed Khamenei. He outlined two approaches to implementing Islamic Sharia: the call to enforce divine law, which Martyr Imam Khamenei championed, and the call to establish a civil society detached from the principles of Sharia.

The senior cleric emphasized that this confrontation had persisted in Iran until the recent imposed war, after which the Iranian nation united behind the implementation of Islamic Sharia—a current recognized as the principlist orientation in the country.

Seminary's dual responsibility

Turning to the responsibilities of the Islamic seminary, Qabanchi stated: "Our duty in the seminary is, first, to embrace a course of action based on implementing Sharia and the path of independence and resistance against global arrogance. Second, to be present among the Ummah and its various segments. Third, that the religious student must serve as a model of asceticism, piety, and detachment from worldly matters."

He further stressed that seminary students must combine message-oriented thought with the jihadist path. "We are in need of renewal in jurisprudential studies and must fill intellectual gaps, all while remaining faithful to the authentic foundations outlined by our great scholars," Qabanchi said.

He added that today's seminary students must be present across all popular spheres, including among the youth, workers, women, universities, students, and other layers of society—particularly the impoverished and the families of martyrs.

'Iraq will never back down'

In a key segment of his address concerning Iraq, Qabanchi stated emphatically: "Iraq will not let go of Iran. Iraq will not retreat from establishing Islamic governance in the country. Iraq will not turn back from the path of resistance in all its forms. And the Iraqi nation will remain loyal to the nation and leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

A global ray from martyr's blood

In his concluding remarks, the senior Iraqi cleric noted: "Speaking of the tragedy of losing the Imam and Leader must be accompanied by speaking of the global ray of light that the blood of the martyred Seyyed has created—for nations have been set in motion towards the victory of Islam and confrontation with global arrogance."
